For many schools, EV infrastructure still feels like a future goal—complex, expensive, or out of scope. But with the EV Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets offering up to £75,000 per school (up to £15,000 per site, across five sites), and covering 75% of installation costs, the case for action is strong and immediate.

Why This Opportunity Matters
The UK is accelerating towards a net-zero future, with 382,000 electric vehicles sold in 2024, and EVs accounting for 21.6% of new car sales in 2025. By 2030, the government aims to reach 300,000 public chargepoints and phase out new petrol and diesel vehicles. Schools, as central community institutions, are uniquely placed to lead this change.
Administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), the grant empowers your school to install EV chargepoints for staff and fleets—delivering immediate value and long-term benefits.

- Support Your Staff: Charging EVs at school, especially at off-peak rates (as low as 2p per mile), is significantly cheaper than petrol or diesel (15p–23p per mile). Staff could save up to £1,500 annually per vehicle—a meaningful boost to wellbeing.
- Reduce Fleet Costs: Electrifying school minibuses or maintenance vehicles cuts fuel and upkeep expenses. Combined with the Electric Car Grant (up to £3,750 per vehicle, launched 16 July 2025), this becomes an affordable, impactful shift.
- Affordable Investment: The grant covers 75% of installation costs—up to £15,000 per site (£850 per active chargepoint, £500 per passive infrastructure space). Schools typically contribute £5,000–£15,000 per site—a small outlay for long-term savings.

- State-funded schools (public sector bodies)
- Private schools with fewer than 250 employees, registered with Companies House or VAT-registered with HMRC
- Schools with 5+ designated parking spaces for staff or fleet vehicles
- Schools that have received under £200,000 in public support over the past three financial years (state aid rules)
