Audi Q5 e-hybrid

Audi expands the Q5 lineup with new plug-in hybrid models: the Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro and Q5 Sportback e-hybrid quattro. Both deliver 299PS (220 kW) and feature a significantly improved high-voltage battery with a net capacity of 20.7 kWh, offering up to 62 miles of electric range.

Powered by a 2.0 TFSI engine (251PS / 185 kW) and an electric motor, the system achieves 0–62 mph in 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Paired with a dual-clutch S tronic transmission and quattro ultra drive, the models offer sporty yet comfortable performance.

Audi introduces a new two-level battery layout, increasing energy density by 45%. AC charging now supports up to 11 kW, reducing full charge time to 2.5 hours. Standard equipment includes S sport suspension, 19-inch alloys, LED lights, and the MMI plus infotainment system with Audi App Store and smartphone integration.

Drive Modes and Efficiency

Two driving modes—EV and hybrid—are available. In EV mode, the vehicle runs on electric power alone, while hybrid mode optimizes efficiency by selecting the best energy source based on driving conditions and navigation data. A new digital slider allows drivers to set the desired battery charge level.

Recuperation has been significantly improved, enabling energy recovery during coasting and braking. Regenerative braking levels are adjustable via steering-wheel paddles, helping optimize energy usage based on terrain and traffic.

Interior and Practical Features

Inside, the e-hybrid models boast a fully adjustable rear seat bench plus, which increases comfort or cargo space as needed. The boot capacity is 438 litres for the SUV and 433 litres for the Sportback, expanding to over 1,300 litres with rear seats folded. Additional features include a larger centre armrest compartment, inductive phone charging (15W), and USB-C ports (supporting up to 100W in the rear).

Advanced Powertrain and Charging

The electric motor offers 129PS (105 kW) and is integrated into the seven-speed S tronic gearbox. A new pulse inverter enhances efficiency and reduces power consumption. The battery pack uses a cell-to-pack design, increasing packing density and thermal performance.

AC charging is upgraded from 7.4 kW to 11 kW (three-phase), with a Mode 3 Type 2 charging cable included as standard. Audi’s charging network spans 28 European countries.

Improved Recuperation and Predictive Driving

Regenerative braking can recover up to 88 kW, accounting for over 90% of deceleration events. The system uses Predictive Efficiency Assistant (PEA) to adjust regeneration based on route data, such as curves, traffic signs, and gradients—even without active navigation.

Dynamic Operating Strategy

The hybrid operating system optimizes power source usage based on driving patterns and energy availability. Electric driving is prioritised in urban environments, while hybrid driving dominates at higher speeds. The vehicle can intelligently recharge the battery using the combustion engine above 40 mph up to a 75% state of charge, ensuring efficient energy usage.

Availability and Pricing

The Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro starts at £56,740, and the Sportback version at £59,240. Both are produced in San José Chiapa, Mexico, and will be available to order in the UK from July 2025, with first deliveries expected in Q3 2025.
